While deploying Sitecore Commerce to our local development installations we ran into the following errors. Could not load file or assembly System.Runtime.CompilerServices.Unsafe Version=4.0.4.1 and System.IO.Compression Version=4.2.0.0

We spent quite a bit of time getting to the root of the issue as it was only happening to some and not all developers. The fix involved the following:

  • Delete your nuget cache: %userprofile%\.nuget\packages
  • Uninstall/remove all .NET core you have installed (runtime + sdk)
  • Reboot your machine
  • Install .NET core SDK 3.1.201 - https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet-core/3.1
  • Make sure you have the latest version of VS 2019 installed. It should be v16.5.4
  • Make sure you have the .NET Core workload installed on VS2019
  • Finally, make sure you have .NET Framework 4.7.1 SDK Installed
  • Clean and rebuild your solution and it's ready to deploy. Make sure you `dotnet publish “project path” -o “publish path”`

Thanks to Akshay SuraKamruz Jaman, and Bruce Davis-Goff we were able to resolve this issue on all the troubled dev machines.
